SOCS Music - Access for Music Teachers

Modified on Mon, 27 Jan at 4:43 PM

This article explains how to create and manage SOCS Music user accounts and explains the different user types.

Who Can Create SOCS Music User Accounts?

A main SOCS Administrator user can grant staff access to the SOCS Music module.

If the staff member already exists in the SOCS User list (i.e. they already have access to other SOCS modules) then their account details can be updated accordingly to include access to SOCS Music. If they are not listed in the SOCS User List then a new user account should be created for them.

Adding or Editing a User

Follow these steps to add a new staff user account or edit an existing account:

Step 1:

Log in to SOCS and select SOCS Administrator

Step 2

Select User List from the SOCS Administrator menu

Step 3

To add a new user, click on Add new user

To edit a user you've already added, find the user in the list and click on Edit next to their name

Pin the new user to the correct member of staff in the "Staff Member" dropdown in the User Editor. This will link the correct staff record, including their lessons, registers and pupils to the user account.

Step 4

Allow access to SOCS Music by selecting the relevant tick box and User Type (more details about different user access levels can be found here).

Step 5

Click Save

Single Sign On

If your school uses Single-Sign On (SSO) the users will also need to be added to the user list used by your Identity Provider (e.g. Microsoft, Google etc) so that they can login via SSO.

If it is not possible to add them to your identity provider then you can add them as an “External” user of SOCS. Click here for information about how to add External Users to SOCS.

Different User Types for SOCS Music Teacher User Accounts

There are three user types for SOCS Music and these are called:

  1. Main User
  2. Normal User
  3. Registers User

These user types have varying access, visibility and permissions within the SOCS Music module. The information below explains what these three different user types can access and view in different areas of the SOCS Music module.

Click here for full details about the access levels for each different user type.
