Creating Shared Music Lessons

Modified on Thu, 13 Feb at 2:41 PM

A shared lesson is one where more than one pupil is added to a lesson. Before you get started, there are some important points and things to consider.

  • To setup a shared lesson, first create the lesson for one pupil in the normal way. Details about how to do this can be found here.
  • Once the lesson is created it can be edited and other pupils added to it.
  • If you are creating a rotation, all pupils added to the first lesson will be added to the other lessons in the rotation.
  • If you are adding extra pupils to a lesson after the rotation or fixed lesson has been created then you can choose whether to add the extra pupils to the single lesson OR to all lessons in the recurring lesson/rotation.

Adding a Shared Lesson

Step 1

Login to SOCS Music

Step 2

Go to the Lesson Scheduler in the left-hand menu

Step 3

Add a lesson to the first pupil in the usual way.

Step 4

Click on the first lesson you created in the Lesson Scheduler to open the Lesson Editor.

Step 5

On the left-hand side of the Lesson Editor you will see the pupil listed for the lesson with link underneath to "Edit Lesson Pupils".

Step 6

Click on the Edit Lesson Pupils Link.

You will now see the pupil(s) added to the lesson already listed first, with other pupils listed below.

Step 7

Tick the pupils that will attend the lesson (at least one pupil must be ticked).

The list of pupils available will only include pupils who have been added to the teacher and session for the selected lesson. If the pupil you want to add is not listed, go the the Pupil or Teacher list and add the pupil to the teacher along with the session for this lesson. More information about this can be found here.

Step 8

If applicable, tick the "Apply changes to all future fixed/rotation lessons.

  • Fixed Lesson: If this is a fixed (weekly) lesson then you can select that option to add a lesson for the required weeks.
  • Rotating Lesson: If the lesson is part of a rotation or fixed weekly lesson, you will see another option below the list of pupils to "Apply changes to all future fixed/rotation lessons". Tick that if the changes you have made to pupils need to be made to those lessons. If the changes are only for the single lesson you are editing do not tick it.

Step 9

Click Save Lesson Pupils button. At this point the pupils added to the lesson have been updated even if you do not save the main lesson details.

Recommended:
Include the word "shared" when naming shared lessons to provide clarity when viewing reports, calendars and lesson lists. For example,"Shared Piano Lesson" instead of "Piano Lesson".
